About Act On LNG

A project of the American Council for Capital Formation (ACCF), Act on LNG is a campaign dedicated to maximizing America’s competitive energy advantage through a market-oriented solution to liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

To date, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Federal Environmental Regulatory Commission (FERC) have fully permitted four terminal applications. In addition the DOE has conditionally approved five permit applications for LNG exports to countries with which the United States does not have free trade agreements. But with over 30 applications still pending at DOE, the current rate of approval is not a sustainable solution, and this delay threatens to undermine America’s global energy advantage with demand filled by other countries such as Russia, Australia.

Act on LNG supports a market-oriented approach to LNG exports. If our leaders embrace the goal of exporting LNG , our economy, job creation, and U.S. competitiveness  will be strengthened and our trade deficit will improve. Given the many hurdles companies need to clear before exporting LNG (including securing FERC permits, environmental reviews, financing, state permitting, etc.), DOE should immediately approve all remaining export applications, and allow the market to determine which LNG export terminals will ultimately come online. The United States must lead on LNG exports, not follow.
